Aziz Ansari is a certified badass and definitely the next big thing in comedy. I've had the pleasure of seeing him perform live at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in LA on multiple occasions. You might know him from the NBC show Parks and Recreation, his character Raaaaaaaandy from the movie Funny People, or perhaps his Comedy Central special; Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening. But if you don't already know him, you definitely will in the future. Dude has got friends/fans like Kanye and ?uestlove from the Roots and his fanbase is growing daily.
Enough of me hyping him up, here are a couple clips from that aforementioned Comedy Central special:
CVS
Sheets
Aziz's cousin Harris
Aziz's night with Kanye
If that wasn't enough Aziz for you, I highly suggest you DVR or pick up the DVD of Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening.
Juicy Justin's Daily Song: Aziz Ansari AKA Raaaaaaaandy & Dave Sitek "Aaaaaaaangry (with 8 a's)" Aziz definitely takes form as the aaaaaaaangry rapper in this jam, he basically shits on every rapper in the game and it's hilarious. So give it a listen if you want Drizzy Drake's e-mail, clown on Dr. Dre for his headphones, and being in a Dr. Pepper commercial, calls out MF Doom for sending out imposters, and other hilarity. This is the first single off of his upcoming mixtape so be prepared for much more. Telling you, the dude is the next big thing!
The mother of all man-crushes: A Tribute to John Mayer
To me personally, I see John Mayer as the alpha-male. Dashing good looks, a voice that would make baby angels jealous, guitar skills that we haven't seen the likes of since Clapton, incredible versatility as a musician, not to mention that the dude is freakin' hilarious.
A couple of weeks ago, John Mayer, was on a VH1 show named "Storytellers" which happens to be one of my favorite concert programs. It's more than just a concert show because the artist usually discusses what influenced him in writing a song before he plays it. So check out the entire show and just TRY watching this entire program without falling victim to his wit and charm, the dude is amazing:
"No Such Thing"
"Daughters"
"Heartbreak Warfare"
"Your Body is a Wonderland" (off the top of this video he does an impromptu new version of "Daughters" and it's hilarious)
"Who Says"
"Waiting on the World to Change"
If you don't believe that John Mayer is hilarious watch this video from years ago of him in a bear suit...
Mayer also shows off his versatility in an previously unreleased track he did with Kanye West from years back named "Bittersweet Poetry." It has always been one of my favorite Kanye songs, if you haven't heard it, listen here:
The "Behind-the-Scenes" of the making of this song is also absolutely hilarious and has been one of my favorite internet videos for years:
If that wasn't enough John Mayer live for you. He did a really cool thing a couple of months ago; a webcast titled "Live on Letterman" which was an entire set from the Ed Sullivan Theatre and you can watch it in it's entirety here:
Juicy Justin's Daily Song: John Mayer "Comfortable" I can honestly say that I'm a big fan of many John Mayer songs, however only one sticks out as my favorite. "Comfortable" never became a hit single, it came out in 1999 on an EP named "Inside Wants Out" and more than any other song written by Mayer; I've got an emotional attachment to it. Every time I listen to it I can't help but reflect on past relationships and the little things that made those relationships worth while or worth abandoning. It's the ultimate tribute to "the one that got away" and I know most of us have one or more of those.
The internet has been a buzz the past couple days on the demise of Fall Out Boy. This came as no shock to me because I knew they were going on "indefinite hiatus" months ago and thought there was no question they'd be coming back, however not until I've read statements by those in the band did I realize that they actually may never come back. They grew apart like most relationships do. I also know that people shit on Fall Out Boy all the time but I've loved them for so long that it really doesn't matter to me.
My love of Fall Out Boy started in 2003 with a record named "Take This to Your Grave," which to me will always be one of the best pop-punk CDs to ever come out. It had the energy of A New Found Glory with the lyrical sensibility of a Saves the Day. It definitely was love at first listen. So I'll take you through the greatness that was "Take This to Your Grave" and I hope it brings back some memories or maybe even gives a new appreciation for the band.
The album starts off like any decent album should, with a big "fuck you" to a girl. The song is named "Tell That Mick he Just Made my List of Things to do Today." I absolutely love this song and I've always wanted to play the game called "when you catch fire, I wouldn't piss to put you out."
The next track is "Dead on Arrival" which was the first single off of this album as well. I've gotta say that I loved this video when it came out because it showcased what awesome dudes the guys in Fall Out Boy were as well as how fun their shows were. It later became the best song to play on the first "Rock Band" video game.
Third up was "Grand Theft Autumn (Where is Your Boy?)" the song that brought Fall Out Boy to TRL and superstardom. After this song was made a single Fall Out Boy made it as a huge act and never looked back. It's a great song and I can definitely relate. I mean I'm sure we've all went through this same scenario; liking a girl who has a boyfriend who is probably an asshole and let's face it we're probably better suited for her in the first place. I mean dudes a straight douchebag, if I saw him today he's probably be wearing a Ed Hardy shirt and getting bottle service at whatever club/bar I'm at. Seriously, that dudes not even cool and he's got the kind of face you just want to take a crowbar to...I'm only joking of course. In conclusion, this song is good.
Later on in the album comes my favorite Fall Out Boy song "Chicago is so Two Years Ago." The ultimate break-up song. If you haven't already noticed, I'm a big fan of bitterness and the bridge of this song is just my favorite thing in the world to sing along to because of that.
"Take This to Your Grave" may be their best album but there are also a lot of other songs Fall Out Boy has done that I really like.
"Honorable Mention" is a song off of Fall Out Boy's first full-length studio album "Evening Out With Your Girlfriend." This song has to have one of my favorite lyrics and the best part is it's totally simple; "I can be your John Cusack" because what hopeless romantic doesn't take after John Cusack?! Say Anything has to be the ultimate hopeless romantic movie of all time and this song is chalk full of references to it.
"I've Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song)." This song is unlike any song Fall Out Boy did before. Pete Wentz being the main lyric writer; you can tell this song is extremely personal to him. It's funny because this song is so easily forgotten, even by me, but some days when I'm not in the best of moods it's been the most comforting song for me to listen to.
"Golden." This song more than any other song showcases what a great singer Patrick Stump is and how versatile he truly is. This song was written after Fall Out Boy reached it's peak of stardom and I think Pete wrote it to really show the struggles of stardom. "All of the mothers raise their babies to stay away from me."
"Disloyal Order of the Water Buffaloes." The first song off their last studio album; a great song with great energy. "Boycott love"
"I'm Like a Lawyer With the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off." Definitely one of the coolest things Fall Out Boy has ever done; a trip to Uganda and a music video, also a really good song.
"What a Catch Donnie." I don't think that there is a song more perfect for Fall Out Boy to leave us on. It truly showcases their progression as a band. If you listen closely towards the end of the song their friends from other bands sing a melody of various choruses from their hit songs, including a guest vocal from Elvis Costello. It's a beautiful song and a wonderful farewell.
Fall Out Boy might always be known as a band that 14 year old girls went crazy for, but they are a whole lot more to the kids that REALLY listened to them. I know the easiest thing to do is express anger towards Pete for becoming a huge celebrity, which is why most people want to point the finger at him. However I can never hate on Pete because if it weren't for Pete and his way with words, Fall Out Boy could have never been what they were. I'm sure we all know how hard it is to maintain relationships with people and if you throw something as huge as "fame and fortune" in the mix it gets that much harder. I'd like to thank Fall Out Boy for years of music and entertainment and I wish all 4 members the best. I'll definitely miss them.
Juicy Justin's Daily Song: Patrick Stump "So Sick (Ne-Yo cover)" To me Patrick Stump has always been overlooked as a great singer, no one really realizes what a versatile singer that he is, most likely because of all the focus Pete Wentz got. However I think he truly shows off his skills when he covered "So Sick" by Ne-Yo for a radio station a couple of years ago.
If you have been following my blog for a while now you probably remember a video I posted with a guy doing crazy stunts, well he's back with a vengeance to showcase his highlight real from 2009. ENJOY!
Juicy Justin's Daily Song: Weezer "(If You're Wondering if I Want You To) I Want You To" I haven't been the hugest fan of the past couple albums Weezer has put out however this has to be my favorite song for at least 3 albums! It's been stuck in my head for a month now and now that it's received a lot of radio time I'm glad the rest of the world is catching on. It's definitely got an old school "Sock Hop" kinda vibe to it, I think that's why I like it best and it happens to be pretty freakin' adorable! It's definitely a song I'd put on a mixtape trying to impress the opposite sex and it's just an all around catchy song. Give it a listen and the video is pretty cool too!
