Sexy-time music.

Juicy Justin's Daily Song: Jon B. "They Don't Know"
Before there was Usher, Ne-Yo, and Robin Thicke there was Jon B. The year was 1997, Madonna won an Oscar, The Florida Marlins won the World Series, Mike Tyson bit Evander Holyfield's ear off, and I was in 7th grade. At that point in my life I had no concept of what love was but I loved this song. I dedicated it to all my middle school crushes, now if only they knew that, I guess "They Don't Know" ziiiing. In my day we used to call these songs "slow jams" and I think that it's still the most timeless music to me; Jon B., Boyz II Men, 112, etc. make for the best singalongs and they bring back some solid memories to me and all my friends that grew up with these 90's "slow jams:. To this day I still love this song and get stoked when it plays on my iPod. Hopefully you remember this song too and it takes you back, if not, maybe you'll have a new song to put on the next mix-tape you make for a girl or boy you like.

Dude's got a killer haircut and goatee combination right!? I can only dream of being that smooth.

Much love and appreciation.

It always trips me out when I have friends or relatives that tell me they talked to someone that knows me from Loud& Obnoxious. Even crazier when I hear that people have followed me since I was in my band Destroying Something Beautiful up until today with Loud& Obnoxious. So I want to take the time to say thank you for having an interest in what me and my friends do and for years of support. If it weren't for our two bands, Dear Life and Destroying Something Beautiful, there would be no Loud& Obnoxious.

With this blog I want to reach out to the readers and what they want to read/see/hear
from this blog. I'd even give shout-outs if I had to. I want to keep it as fresh as I possibly can and post as much as I can, so I'll make myself as accessible as I can for you. I'll post up a bunch of my contact information every so often, so you can let me know what you want to see on "The Daily Chew." And I don't mind making new friends, so don't be shy!

E-Mail: justin@loudobnoxious.com
Twitter: @juicy_justin
Facebook: www.facebook.com/juicyjustin

With that being said, I would like to take this opportunity to send a HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Stephanie Torres, a homie for years now and a loyal "Daily Chew" reader since this blog began. Send her some love if you know her. And to commemorate a fresh start and Stephy's birthday, I would like to add a new feature to make this "Daily Chew" as daily as it could be; Juicy Justin's Daily Song.

Juicy Justin's Daily Song: Saves the Day "Hold"
I know Steph's a big Saves the Day fan but I once skipped over this song while my iPod was on shuffle and she made me turn it back. It's a random memory I have with this song so here's a super old video of Chris Conley playing it in an alley (Best part is when the cop interrupts the song):

2009 Year in Review: Loud& Obnoxious

I've ran with the Loud& Obnoxious dudes since day 1. From the days where we'd print in the Apostol's garage through the night up until the time of morning where most people actually start their day. So it's safe to say that I've got a good grasp on what kind of work and effort it took to get Loud& Obnoxious where it is today, as well as a whole lot of knowledge on the product they've put out over the years.

In 2009 Loud& Obnoxious kicked it into high-gear. 2 successful warehouse sales, 4 great collections, new faces added to the family, many new retailers, Karmaloop Kazbah, shirts, pullovers, crewnecks, and FITTEDS. And it's already looking like 2010 is going to be another big year with Cut& Sew apparently on the way. It makes me excited just to be a part of this family, but before we move forward I've got one more entry looking back to the past. These are my personal favorite pieces from the 4 collections Loud& Obnoxious put out in 2009.

SPRING '09:

The "Never Dead" Tee. I love this shirt because it reminds me of simpler times, reminds me of being a kid. It also is the first appearance of my favorite L&O saying, "Never Dead." Which, as you'll see later, is incorporated on some of the coolest L&O pieces there are. The writing on the tee is hand-written by my best bud @BrianObnoxious and it too has been incorporated in a couple other pieces L&O has released.

The "Loud& Theory" Tee. A Tribe Called Quest is one of my favorite hip-hop groups and their album "The Low End Theory" helped shape how hip-hop was in the early 90's. I believe that L&O and Tribe are a perfect match because in the way Tribe fused hip-hop and jazz to create their own sound of music, Loud& Obnoxious tries fusing elements of music, skate, childhood, and streetwhere to create their own brand of clothing.

SUMMER '09:

The "BRB" Tee. To me it's the classiest and cleanest 'exclamations tee' ever done. I absolutely love wearing this shirt because literally EVERYONE knows where it's from. It's one of the hottest selling shirts this brand has ever had as well. Funny story, I was probably the most excited to hear of the re-release of this tee because I slept on it big-time the first time. In fact, at one of the sales I had put one aside to pay for later; when a friend that shall remain nameless accidentally sold it not knowing that I had put it aside for myself. Feels good to finally have one.

The "Slimesclamations" Tank. The design itself and just the fact that 'slime' is in the name brings Nickelodeon to mind. I also really like the tank version of this design because I can take credit for the colorway. I suggested a sunset-like colorway because what came to mind for me was in the old school versions of Microsoft Word they had these colorful fonts named "Word Art" and I always used to use a sunset one for my title pages on reports I'd do in elementary and middle school. And because of that cute little story, it's one of my favorite pieces of '09.

FALL '09:

The "Kills" Tee. An oldie but a goody remade with drastic improvements. Let's face it, re-makes fucking blow. Movies re-made always suck more than the original, songs re-mixed or covered usually aren't as good, and by calling something a "re-interpretation" instead of a re-make it cheapens it even more. However this is one re-make that is much better than the original. The design is great and it actually looks even better in person. The details in the cigarette are an added bonus to what an awesome tee this truly is.

The "No Good" Tee. It's a really cool simple design. I'm a sucker for patch designs especially since Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most awesome videogames in recent memory. Looking at the back just makes me want to 'melee' a motherfucker.

The "Branded" Pullover. This is honestly the softest hoodie that you will ever own! What makes this pullover great are the details. A nice little box logo on the chest, "never" on one sleeve and "dead" on the other, then L&O's signiture exclamations on the back. It's clean and soft, what else could you really ask from a pullover hoodie?

The "Never Dead" Fitted. Alas, the prize piece of the Fall line, L&O's much anticipated debut fitted hat. This hat literally goes with any outfit and once again it's the details that make this fitted a must-buy. The sickest of all being the deep-purple satin on the inside of the hat, it's a nice little surprise.

HOLIDAY '09:
I know if you skipped ahead a little bit you'll notice that I listed more pieces from Holiday than any other line. It's not because it just dropped in the online store and I'm trying to get everyone to buy it, it's because I truly believe it's Loud& Obnoxious biggest and baddest line.

The "Jackson" Tee.
I'm not going to front; I'm not too familiar with Jackson Pollock's work. All I know is that he was an abstract artist and he struggled with alcoholism throughout his life. However I really like this shirt. My favorite part is that it's just not his art inside the exclamations, but there are paint splotches around the exclamations making it more true to his art.

The "Madness" Tee. This is the return of one of my favorite shirts and it definitely is back and better than ever. I think it's a real testament to the strides L&O has made as far as the quality goes. The exclamation print in the front is much more clear and the back has got to be one of the coolest things L&O has done! I love the back, when @BrianObnoxious sent me a picture of it, I couldn't wait to rock this tee. And now that I have it, it's definitely one of my favorite L&O shirts to rock.

The "Lomoeba" Tee. It's no secret that I love music, 90% of the posts on my blog have to do with music. Amoeba was my favorite place to buy records back in the day and it's still a complete joy to go over there and look for albums I haven't seen in years. Amoeba is also a California institution. At first I was skeptical of this idea because I wasn't sure if the Amoeba logo can translate into a cool L&O tee, but boy was I wrong. When I finally saw the finished product I was pleasantly surprised. All three of the colorways are hot, I'd buy all three if I could.

The "Cursive" Crewneck. Crewnecks are the new hoodies and this crewneck is simple and clean. Not much you can say about it, I just like it a lot. One of the "classier" pieces L&O has ever put out.

The "Loud&" Fitted. If I were only going to buy one piece this year this would be it. The hype surrounding this fitted was just insane, more than any other thing, people constantly asked me when the "Loud&" fitted was coming out. And I believe all the hype is justified. It's the details that make clothing to me and not only is the red bill and pin dope, but I love the vintage green athletic underbill and how the yellow satin lining just sets it off. Top to bottom this is all you could ask for in a fitted, so don't sleep!

Finally done looking at the past, now it's time to look to 2010. Making '10 the biggest year for Loud& Obnoxious yet and hoping to get life in general out of these "recession blues." There's a lot to be excited about and I feel hope in the air.

Stay gold.

2009 Year in Review: Top 5 Albums

Just because I feel that 2009 was a particularly weak year in music doesn't mean it didn't have it's bright spots.

Say Anything “Self-Titled”
With this album, Say Anything solidified itself as one of my favorite bands ever. This album is their most mature and definitely their most catchy. The most amazing part to me is that their album “In Defense of the Genre” was my favorite album of 2007 and in my opinion this album is a notch above. Singer Max Bemis is also becoming one of my favorite lyricists, I love his brashness, openness, and his sense of humor. All three qualities are shown in each album he’s written and improve with each outing. If that’s not enough to get you to want to listen to this album, you can read the review I wrote about this album from a couple months ago here.
Favorite tracks: “Hate Everyone,” “Less Cute,” “Eloise,” “Mara and Me,” “Crush’d,” “Cemetary,” “Property,” “Young Dumb and Stung,” and “Ahh… Men”

Phoenix “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix”
Phoenix is the perfect band name for this band because they are definitely rising like one. When I listen to them I experience a phenomena that I don’t think I’ve ever experienced with any other band; I sing along to them knowing full well that I probably don’t know half of the lyrics. They are just that damn catchy! I truly have no idea what they’re saying but their brand of pop-rock is so catchy that I don’t really mind. One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen, it’s hard not to have a good time watching them perform or just listening to their music in general. It’s also not hard to like a band like Phoenix in general, they make such feel good music and that more than anything is what I think most people need.
Favorite Tracks: “Lisztomania,” “1901,” “Fences,” “Rome,” “Countdown,” “Girlfriend,” and “Armistice”

Manchester Orchestra “Mean Everything to Nothing”
Manchester Orchestra are a band that you NEED TO KNOW after 2009. I do not see anything but good things coming from this band in the future. Before 2009 they were virtual unknowns and since then I’ve heard them get a decent amount of radio play. I saw Manchester Orchestra open up for my favorite band, Brand New, back in 2007 and they blew me away. Since then I was hoping they’d get the exposure they deserve and I’m glad to say 2009 brought them that. They’ve got a sound unlike any band out there right now. It’s a very raw sound and that’s what I enjoy most about it. This album is also showcases their versatility; sometimes it’s soft and beautiful and other times it’s loud, fast, raw, and rugged. Just writing about it now makes me want to listen to it.
Favorite tracks: “The Only One,” “Shake it Out,” “I’ve Got Friends,” “100 Dollars,” “I Can Feel a Hot One,” “My Friend Marcus,” “Everything to Nothing,” and “The River”

Mayer Hawthorne “A Strange Arrangement”
Mayer Hawthorne takes the title of “baby making album of the year.” I’d make babies by myself to this album if I had to. “A Strange Arrangement” is as oldies as you can get. It’s got a soul, old school r&b, jazz kinda feel to it and for me it was love at first listen. It’s crazy because on that first listen I would find myself singing along already. Certain songs made me feel like I already knew all the lyrics because of how catchy the tracks were. Play this album while your parents are around and they might think you’re a pretty cool kid after all.
Favorite tracks: “Your Easy Lovin’ Ain’t Pleasin’ Nothin’,” “A Strange Arrangement,” “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out,” “Maybe So, Maybe No,” “Shiny & New,” and “Make Her Mine”

Morrissey “Years of Refusal”
I want to say that a Morrissey album would be in my top 5 of the year any year based solely on his voice alone. Morrissey has got a voice that can make grown men weep and make women around the world wish that he liked vaginas. Moz caught my attention in the first track “Something is Squeezing My Skull” and kept my full attention for the entire album. He takes us through an album full of love, anger, and heartache as he’s done throughout his entire career. You can even forgive the fact that some of these songs have been on the “Greatest Hits” record. I found myself asking the question “Will Morrissey ever be truly happy?” Though he responds with the final track “I’m OK by Myself;” I secretly hope he won’t be so he will fill the rest of my life with a soundtrack of angst and emotion. Morrissey is a God among men.
Favorite tracks: “Something is Squeezing My Skull,” “All You Need is Me,” “I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris,” “That’s How People Grow Up,” “It’s Not Your Birthday Anymore,” “You Were Good in Your Time,” and “I’m OK by Myself”

Give the clips a listen if you haven't heard any of these records. My words don't do any of these albums justice. So keep an open ear, open mind, and open heart when giving them a try. Looking back on it now, these albums are all awesome. Maybe 2009 wasn't so bad after all...

Stay gold.

2009 Year in Review: Fails

This year in fails was a great one. And in my next post, I will be posting my favorite albums of the year followed by an entry of my favorite L&O pieces of 2009. So be on the lookout for that. In the meantime, check out this compilation video of the best fails in 2009. It's hilarious.

Just two more "2009 Year in Review" entries left!

2009 Year in Review: Music

Music had a particularly slow year in 2009. Nothing really blew my mind and I was over-exposed to popular radio music. 2009 also came with a lot of disappointments, many albums rumored to came out by Blink 182, Glassjaw, and once again Dr. Dre never did. 2009 did have it's few bright spots though; as I'll showcase tomorrow.

If there's one thing that 2009 has taught me it's thank God we can still listen old music.

Bummer Band Break Up of the Year: Have Heart.
I'm going to start this off on a serious note, and with a band not involved in popular culture at all (which the rest of the list seems to be aligned with). But Have Heart broke up this year and without a doubt; they were my favorite hardcore band ever. I'm just glad I was able to see them once before they went away. Inspiration for a Loud& Obnoxious shirt, as well as my favorite song "Watch Me Rise" will always evoke passion and fury inside of me that no other song simply will. They will be missed but like every other great band; their music will never die.

Over-hyped Artist of the Year: Drake.
Drake has all this hype surrounding him, he's featured on just about every hip-hop song coming out right now and I don't see what the hype is all about yet. Not saying the dude isn't talented I've liked a couple of the songs he's been on, it's just he's getting all this attention and hype when he hasn't even put out a full-length album yet. People talk about him like he's the best thing since sliced bread, when in my eyes he has yet to prove himself. Even Soulja Boy has two full-length albums out already haha. Talk to me when you've proved yourself, young buck. Until then I'll still see you as "Wheelchair Jimmy" from Degrassi.
PS: Is there any song as nauseating as "Best I Ever Had"? I liked it the first 20 times I heard it, but after that it got played out faster than a Black Eyed Peas song. Even the breasts in this video couldn't keep me watching...

Disappointment of the Year: Lil Wayne.
The best thing that Weezy put out this year was his "Behind the Music" special on VH1, well that and the aforementioned "Kobe Bryant." Is it just me or has Weezy lost a beat in his rhyme? I used to be so excited when a new 'Lil Wayne song would drop and I'd listen to it only to be dissapointed. Wayne used to be my second favorite rapper of present day and after his 2009, T.I. passed him up and the dude is in jail! Weezy was supposed to put out 3 albums in 2009 and he released none. He's still pushing forward with this "rock" album named "Rebirth" which sounds absolutely terrible so far. Don't believe me? I've got 2 words for you "Prom Queen." Wishing Weezy a solid 2010 and I hope he restores my faith in him.
I loved her fancy underwear... CRIMINY!

Jail-Bait of the Year: Selena Gomez.

Guilty Pleasure of the Year: LMFAO.
So I know what you're thinking; "how are you going to blast Wayne and Drake and praise LMFAO?" First of all, I hold Drake and Wayne in a much higher regard. Second of all, I'm not praising LMFAO. I have to admit I hated "I'm in Miami, Bitch" with a furious passion, but somewhere in between "Yes" and "La La La" they turned it around for me. I took their music for what it's supposed to be; 2 dudes that love to party and make fun music. And you can't really hate on that. They are also the best soundtrack to getting inebriated that one could ever wish for. And how can you hate on any group that uses the lyric "your royal penis is clean"?

Best Thing in Music You’ve Never Heard: Bangs.
No comment. JUST WATCH THE VIDEO!

Newcomer of the Year: Wale.
In a year with newcomers like Drake and Kid Cudi, Wale stands firmly above both. First of all, he's the only rapper of the three that actually sticks to rapping. Tired of these rappers wanting to be R&B singers; R. Kelly is rolling around in his grave. Wale released a full-length album named "Attention Deficit" and I must say it was one of my favorite hip-hop releases of the year. He shows a lot of promise and I think he's definitely got the staying power to remain relevant in hip-hop.

Artist of the Year: Lady Gaga.
Love her or hate her, you'll never forget her. I don't recall anyone that skyrocketed to stardom (in the last decade) as fast as Lady Gaga did. People always say things like "She's so weird" or that she dresses weird, but what they fail to realizes is that she dresses or acts the way she does for a reason. That reason is to get people to talk about her, which obviously has worked. Whether it's love or hate, she's being discussed from elementary schools to old folks homes (well maybe not old folks homes). Some of the things she does makes me believe she's conducting some insane social experiment to try and see how famous she can get and what she can get away with. This social experiment has obviously worked because she had 2 of the top 5 singles of 2009 and countless comparisons to Madonna. Don't expect Gaga to go-go away any time soon.

Music Story of the Year: Michael Jackson’s Death.
MJ's death was something worldwide. Celebrity death doesn't really effect me that much, but Michael Jackson's was more than a celebrity death. He was an icon in every sense of the word. He revolutionized pop music and made some of the most memorable songs and videos EVER. Not just of his era, decade, genre, but EVER! I believe him to be one of the greatest entertainers that have ever lived. He did have his demons, which we all do and for that reason I won't hold that against him. I'll just continue remembering him for the huge influence he has had on pop music WORLDWIDE and the amazing music and legacy he has left behind. I'll always remember putting that "Bad" cassette into the stereo and mimicking his dance moves in my garage, with the fan on full blast so I can look like Michael with his button-down shirt blowing in the wind. Thanks for everything MJ.

That being said I'll leave you with my two favorite Michael Jackson songs; "Rock With You" and "PYT"

If that wasn't enough nauseatingly outplayed pop-music for you, here's a mashup of the top 25 songs of 2009...

Stay gold.

2009 Year in Review: Sports

Sports have always been a huge part of my life. From soccer to hockey to basketball, I've tried it all. At one point my dream was to be a sports agent, nowadays it's to be a sports journalist or to do public relations for a team. 2009 was once again a solid year for sports and these are some of the moments that stuck out in my mind (with a emphasis more on the NBA and Mixed Martial Arts since I just love those two sports too damn much).

Overblown Story of the Year: Brett Favre
Brett Favre retired last season from the Packers only to return with the Jets. After an unsuccessful season with the Jets, there were weeks of speculation on whether he would return to the team or retire. Favre decided to retire, and I thought the Brett Favre circus was finally over. However he decided to un-retire and play for the Minnesota Vikings. This soap opera lasted all of summer and I just about wanted to blow my brains out by the end of it.

Sports Team of the Year: The New York Yankees
Besides the Boston Celtics, there is no team I hate more than the New York Yankees. But as a sports fan you need to give credit where credit is due, and the Yankees had to have one of the most stacked baseball teams I've ever seen. Though they did buy the team, you can't hate on those who have the money for their dedication to winning. They were stacked from top to bottom; A-Rod had his best post season to date, CC Sabathia was one of the most dominant pitchers I have ever seen, and they stayed generally healthy throughout the season. There are sour grapes on my part because they did beat my Angels in the ALCS. It always felt kind of like a "David vs. Goliath matchup" but this time the bad guys won; they don't call them "The Evil Empire" for nothing. And as much as it pains me to say; they were the team of the year with how dominant they were. To commemorate this, here's a picture of A-rod kissing himself...

Knockout of the Year: Dan Henderson KOs Michael Bisping at UFC100
UFC 100 was a milestone for the company and along with it came one of the most explosive knock outs ever seen in MMA. I remember the collective grunt that came from the room like it was yesterday. Gotta love the insult to injury that Henderson adds once Bisping hits the deck.

Submission of the Year: Toby Imada with a "Inverted Triangle" in Bellator.
One of the sickest submissions I've ever witnessed and I have been watching MMA for a long while, what adds effect to the awesomeness that is this submission is the camera angle.

Fight of the Year: Bibiano Fernandes vs Hiroyuki Takaya at Dream.11
Takaya was a heavy underdog in this fight (not to mention the tournament) but it made for a really interesting match, it goes forgotten this year in Mixed Martial Arts because it didn't happen in the UFC, but it was one of the most memorable matches to me personally.

Playoff Series of the Year: Bulls vs Celtics
I don't recall a first round series ever being this intense and emotional. Everyone was at the edge of their seat for each one of these games and it was all around exciting series. Derek Rose made himself a household name and the Celtics willed their team without KG. Side note: KG is the most obnoxious asshole ever.

Dunk of the Year: Dwyane Wade on Anderson Varejao.
Kid you not, this dunk on Varejao made me drop Varejao from my fantasy basketball team. I couldn't bare to have someone on my team that got this emasculated.

Honorable Mention for "Dunk of the Year" Shannon Brown on Mikki Moore.
Let Shannon Dunk! I like to call him "Shamwow!"

Play of the Year: Devin Harris buzzer beater for the win.
I've seen this listed in a couple lists as the 2nd or 3rd best play of the year, but I don't see how that's possible. It's honestly one of the most amazing basketball shots I've ever seen, and I've seen a shitload of basketball in my life.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter of the Year: Georges St. Pierre.
GSP started off 2009 by beating someone that many consider as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, my favorite MMA fighter B.J. Penn. GSP used his amazing wrestling to break Penn's will; forcing his corner to throw in the towel. Then GSP was featured as co-main event on MMA's biggest stage UFC100 where he dominated who many people considered the 2nd best welterweight in the world. He once again used his superior wrestling to break his opponents will and with that completely deadlocked the welter-weight division. No one even touches GSP at 170.

Individual Athlete of the Year: Manny Pacquiao.
Well it doesn't look like we're going to get our superfight with Mayweather anytime soon, but we definitely know who the best "pound-for-pound" fighter is! Manny came off a 2008 where he dominated legend Oscar De La Hoya in a "Dream Fight" to a great start in 2009 by completely outclassing and knocking out British boxer; Ricky Hatton. Then to end the year, Pacquiao fought and dominated the bigger Miguel Cotto to capture his historic 7th title in 7 weight classes.

Team Athlete of the Year: Kobe Bryant.
Yes, LeBron James captured the 2008-09 season's MVP title and deservedly so, however Kobe captured his 4th NBA Championship Ring as well as the NBA Finals MVP award. Was he content with that? No. Kobe went to work again, trained with ex-NBA center Hakeem Olajuwon to work on his post moves. That's what seperates Kobe from everybody else; he's got incredible work ethic, he wants to get better and better no matter how good people already feel he is, and he's played through injuries the past 3 seasons but he hasn't missed a game because of his will to win. Kobe ended 2009 with a couple incredible game winning shots as well. He won't stop 'til he's known as the greatest of all time and that's something that everyone has to admire.

Here is an epic Kobe video, highlighting his career the past 3 years.

And here's a song that 'Lil Wayne made about Kobe if you've never heard it before. It's one of my pump up jams!

Stay gold.

2009 Year in Review: Films

I've been compiling my "Year in Review" list for a couple of weeks now and because of business in the Holiday season followed by a week of illness I haven't been able to finish it. So I decided that it would be much easier if I spread these lists throughout the week. Better late than never I suppose, and in order to move into 2010 we have to be able to look back and reflect on the year that was 2009. So this first entry will circle around my favorite films of 2009.

Now be forewarned, I didn't watch EVERYTHING I wanted to in 2009. For instance, I didn't have the 15 bucks to witness the visually stunning work of art that everyone says Avatar is. I plan on catching up on such films, but it would be unfair of me to include them on the list not having seen them.

Star Trek
JJ Abrams is a bonafied film-making genius. I was a little hesitant to watch this film because I'm not a "Trekkie." Though I did use to watch old Star Trek reruns late at night as a kid. Abrams managed to make this film fun to watch from beginning to the end. You grow to love every character in this movie. The cast is great, they've got freakin' Eric Bana playing the villain for crying out loud! If you need another reason to watch this movie or love this movie even more I've got two words for you..... Zoe Saldana....or for the ladies, Chris Pine.

(500) Days of Summer
Hopefully you've already read my film review; if you haven't click here to read. It was definitely my favorite romantic comedy of 2009, the soundtrack was the best I've heard in a long while, and it just makes the City of Angels look beautiful! I love the Smiths...

District 9
Unlike any alien film I've ever seen. But let me start off by saying this movie was nothing like I thought it would end up being, in a good way. It definitely is an intelligent science fiction film, but it's a lot more than that. It could be looked at as a social commentary on alienation, at least that's what I saw it as. And best part about it is everyone can form their own opinion on what the true meaning of the movie is. It's smart, funny, thought provoking, and heartbreaking. You've never seen an "alien" movie quite in this light before.

Zombieland
People thought I was crazy when I said this movie would be good and it's nice to see that those who have seen this film generally like it. It's got a lot of "fucked up" things that I find to be completely awesome like zombies, blood and gore, unnecessary violence, crude language, twinkies, and off putting humor. At times it's even hilariously violent and you can't help but love the interactions and relationships the characters have in the movie. I highly recommend Zombieland to anyone even if you dislike seeing blood and gore. The best thing about Zombieland is no more Facebook status updates...

Inglorious Basterds
With this film, Quentin Tarantino solidified himself to me as my favorite director of all time. Without a doubt this movie was my most anticipated of the year and it did not let down. Tarantino once again proves he's got some of the biggest balls in Hollywood and doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks or says, he'll re-write history of he has to. I've always admired Tarantino's sense of humor and the ultra-violence he always showcases in his films and Inglorious Basterds is no different. However it is unlike any Tarantino film I've ever seen in how much more "dialog-centered" the movie in comparison to his other work. Lastly, Brad Pitt definitely maintains his title as "most awesome sexy dude of all time" in his role as Lt. Aldo Raine.

More to come this week; so come ride with me through 2009 one last time.

Stay gold.
