Gettin' schooled.
Sorry for the lack of updates the past couple of weeks. Been real busy at school writing countless articles for the Mt. Sac Newspaper and magazine, working at Glad Rags Ink, and spending time with my loved ones. But now things are slowing down a little bit and I'm getting the hang of my new schedule so I'll update more, I promise.
M.I.A. burst on the U.S. music scene with her smash-hit "Paper Planes" and is set to release her still untitled album sometime this summer. A song titled "Born Free" is already the center of controversy because of the content of it's music video, in fact it's even been banned on youtube. I personally don't have the problem with the video, however I'm someone that really doesn't take offense to anything. Whatever the case, I'll let you be the judge. Keep in mind this video is NSFW... so if your workplace would take offense to overweight naked people, profanity, and violence then I'd wait to watch this one at home.

Juicy Justin's Daily Song: Radiohead "No Surprises"
Through my high school years one band that helped me get through some of the tough times and growing pains was Radiohead. Something about their somber sound and overall creativity drew me to them. "No Surprises" was one of those songs that punched me straight in the heart and it was only amplified by how awesome/different the music video was. I know this song is definitely most known for the music video, but it truly is a great song as well.
I was reminded of "No Surprises" the other day because I had read that Regina Spektor has covered the song. I was a little skeptical to listen to her version because of how much I liked the original, but low-and-behold at first listen I got that same punch in the heart. It's a little more stripped down due to the fact that it's only her vocals accompanied by piano. It's beautiful, it's heartbreaking, and it's definitely worth a listen.
Regina Spektor "No Surprises (Radiohead Cover)"
Stay gold.
