Best and Worst of 2008.
I've been reading a lot of best of 2008 lists and thought I should write one of my own...
WORST:
- The economy. Businesses are dying, families are struggling, and life doesn't seem as stable as it's always felt. It's been really sad to see/ hear about and it's just not the US, the bad economy is worldwide, which makes it even worse.
- Any type of "rock" music. One of the things that's closest to my heart, rock music just isn't the same, "the scene" killed that. It's just not fun anymore, no one is making anything groundbreaking or worth talking about, it's a real sad time for rock music. I mean it got as bad as me going back to 6th grade and listening to mainstream hip-hop.
- How outplayed anything lumberjack got, I mean c'mon. It was something a little more than a year ago that was incredibly cool, now it's incredibly lame.
- The Hollywood Writer's Strike. Still feeling the ramifications to this day, my favorite show on TV "The Office" has been lackluster this season besides 2 or 3 episodes, "Family Guy" has taken a turn for the worse, and for every sitcom or drama show that gets canceled 2 or 3 reality shows take it's place.
- "Single Ladies." Fuck that song, fuck that dance. It has girls all over the place exclaiming "if you liked it you should've put a ring on it," obviously if you like that song no guy wanted to put a ring on it.
BEST:
+ The Dark Knight. The most mature superhero movie ever made as well as the most well done superhero ever made. Superb acting, superb writing, and it was 2 and a half hours of edge of your seat entertainment. Everything you could ever ask for in a superhero movie. I hadn't been so excited for a movie since Spider-Man 3 (which was a monumental letdown), but this is one movie that lives up to the hype and more.
+ Lil' Wayne's "The Carter III," when a record lives up to the hype you know it's a good record and "The Carter III" lived up to that hype as well as is unanimously the hip-hop album of the year as far as I and many critics are concerned. I love any album where the artist can just open himself up to the world and leave himself/herself vulnerable for his/her fans and Weezy did just that. Good beats and creative rhymes, you know an albums good when at least 5 songs on that record could be singles.
+ Mainstream "hip hop." Lil' Wayne, Kanye West, the Game, and T.I. all put out albums that were above par and my interest in mainstream hip-hop was finally restored after years of horrible horrible music.
+ Pacquiao vs. De La Hoya: the Dream Match. More like the Dream Slaughter. Next up: Hatton or Mayweather.
+ UFC/MMA. Of any sport MMA made the biggest leaps and bounds this year. Amazing cards, amazing fights, and amazing upsets this year had fans glued to their TV and begging for more. It's good to see that people have started to come around and truly see how wonderful the sport of MMA really is, rather than some preconceived notions of it being "Human Cockfighting" by one Presidential election loser. And in 2009, it could only get better and more competitive.
+ The Olympics. They ended up being far entertaining than I'm sure a lot of people believed they did, I even watched sports I had no interest in just for the sake of watching competition. From Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, to the Redeem Team it made for one awesome Olympics, not to mention the visual spectacles put on in the opening and closing ceremonies by those in Beijing.
+ Barack Obama. Enough said. President Elect. Just get Bush out of office. And I don't think I've been this proud to be an American in quite a while.
-Juicy Justin.
